Selling a lightly used handheld FORENSICS DETECTORS ([link removed by eBay]) Model FD-600-H2 Hydrogen (H2) detector. Unit works great and comes with unit, belt clip, padded carry case, charge adapter/cable, user manual, calibration certification sheet, handheld 4 foot telescopic hooded detector wand, and extension pneumatic tubing.

The unit has a built-in air pump, continuously drawing ambient air and gasses into the unit and past the sensing element for fast response.

I used this unit to successfully pinpoint an irrigation system underground water leak that did not show leak location through above ground water pooling. I pressurized the irrigation system piping with a low pressure H2 tracer gas (5% H2, 95% N2) purchased through a local welding supply house. Hydrogen use in this application was desirable due to availability and its light molecular weight which allows it to rise vertically and penetrate obstacles such as concrete. Helium would also be beneficial, but is becoming difficult to acquire.

With the irrigation piping pressurized with the tracer gas, leak detection was achieved by survey sweeping the suspected area using the detector with handheld detection wand. Several adjustments of tracer gas pressure/flow rate were necessary before reliable leak detection was achieved. In my particular case, it detected a leak on both sides of my driveway, since the leaking pipe was buried under the driveway in a protective pipe. A leak detection contractor had previously failed to locate the leak using their standard acoustic leak detection equipment and techniques.
