AI Overview

The Nikon NT-2A is a vintage optical-mechanical surveying theodolite (often referred to as an engineer's transit) manufactured by Nikon in Japan during the late 20th century.

Key Features & Specifications

Optics: Features a high-power 30× telescope utilizing Nikon's legendary glass optics for bright, sharp target definition.

Angle Measurement: Precision graduated circles for measuring horizontal and vertical angles directly.

Design: Rugged, heavy-duty metal body construction designed for field reliability in construction and land surveying.

Plummet: Equipped with an integrated optical plummet for fast and precise centering over a ground control point.

Leveling Base: Utilizes a detachable tribrach leveling base standard to Nikon's professional instrument line.

Context and Usage

The NT-2A belongs to an era of transition in surveying technology—bridging traditional optical transits and modern electronic total stations. While current professionals typically rely on digital theodolites like the Nikon NE-102 Engineering Theodolite or computerized total stations like the Nikon N Series Total Station, the NT-2A remains valued by collectors, educators, and operators needing a reliable mechanical backup for basic angle-turning and leveling.
