Product Overview

Sitting between a detector preamplifier and an ADC or multichannel analyzer, the Tennelec TC 202BLR shapes and amplifies each pulse in a single-width Nuclear Instrumentation Module (NIM) slot. The BLR in the name is its baseline restorer, which holds the output baseline steady as count rates rise and keeps peaks from smearing. Gain, shaping, polarity and restorer rate are all set from the front panel.

Key Features

Coarse gain selector marked 5 to 2K, fine gain x0.5 to x1.5 on a turns-counting dial
Shaping switch: unipolar or bipolar
Baseline restorer in / out, with rate switch low, medium, hi
Polarity switch: direct or inverted
P/Z set and DC set screwdriver trims
Front BNC jacks: preamplifier test input, input, DC coupled output
Rear BLR input switch, PREAMP power D-connector, standard NIM power connector
Panel marked +24V/40mA, +12V/12mA, -12V/15mA, -24V/40mA

Applications

Shaping pulses from a germanium, silicon or scintillation detector preamp for an MCA
Keeping peaks clean at higher count rates with the baseline restorer switched in
Replacing a shaping amplifier in an existing NIM spectroscopy setup

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it fit a standard NIM bin?

Yes. It is a single-width module with the standard rear power connector.

Can it power a detector preamp?

The rear panel carries a PREAMP power D-connector for that purpose.

Unipolar or bipolar output?

Either. The front shaping switch selects unipolar or bipolar.

What am I getting, and what am I taking on?

A used TC 202BLR that worked well before storage and has not been function tested since. The photos are of this unit, front and rear, and the satisfaction guarantee covers it. Flat-rate shipping in the lower 48, and orders over the free-shipping line ship free.

At low count rates every amplifier looks good. The restorer earns its letters when the source gets hot and the baseline starts to drift, so plan your busy days around it.
